My D.C. trip wasn't just filled with sightseeing at government buildings and monuments; there was a lot of downtime for relaxation and, as the kids say, "hanging out." It was great to watch American TV again, especially college and pro football. Eating at American restaurants, especially the Maryland seafood places, meeting Kate's friends and shopping in American stores again -- all great!
Fall color was at its zenith while I was in Washington.
Here are two pictures at Kate's house ...
and two at a local park ...
and two along a highway in Maryland.
Of course I was delighted to see the granddogs. Here's Bonnie ...
and her partner in crime, Clyde.
They are on constant alert for trespassing woodland creatures ...
dangerous cars driving down the street ...
and of course terrorists on golf carts!
Bonnie and Clyde celebrated Grandma getting to watch college football again by donning their cheerleader and letter sweater uniforms.
Grandma can't resist those sad little faces. They haven't had a tidbit in, oh, I don't know, minutes and minutes!
Of course all that watchdogging and begging leads to utter exhaustion.
While I was in D.C., Kate took me to Annapolis, the Maryland state capital on Chesapeake Bay.
It's a picturesque community ...
with a charming, old-fashioned downtown ...
home to the United States Naval Academy ...
and a scenic harbor.
Halloween fell while I was there. We all had to wear costumes.
Clyde was a dinosaur with a caveman riding on his back ...
and Bonnie was a preppie girl.
Kate dressed up as the [in]famous Kate Gosselin, a remarkable likeness, I think!
Yours truly was an old hippie - go quickly past this one!
Kate's friends, Jessica and Pat (here as an angel and Beetlejuice), invited me to their Halloween party where I had a great time.
Pat and Jessica's dog, Jamison, came as a lobster, and like that scavenger of the sea, scarfed up everything in sight!
Kate's friends, Amy and John, came as a nun and Jesus.
Don't know whose house this is, but isn't that decoration great?
